Parish Life

Faith Education

Sunday liturgy is available for children 5 years and older. Commencing in October, children are grouped according to age and school grade and are guided to understand the day’s gospel in the church’s faith education rooms. Parents must register their children and provide their Baptismal certificate. Parents with children who have not yet been baptized must make an appointment with the parish priest to discuss baptism for their children.

Classes begin at 10h30 sharp and finish at 11h00 at which time the children return to the church proper to worship with their family that is waiting for them.

Following the Christmas break, Sacramental preparation begins. Children 8 years and older will prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance or Confession) and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. These sacraments are usually celebrated during the Easter season.

Children 10 years and older prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation so long as they have already received the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The candidates preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are encouraged to become involved in church life by singing in the choir, becoming a proclaimer, and helping at church events.

The children of the Faith Education classes traditionally perform the story of the birth of Christ at the Christmas Eve Mass. This is dependent on the help of volunteers to coordinate the practice sessions and direct the event. This addition to our celebration brings smiles to all present.
